To and Across Canada

Gastown, Vancouver

Gastown was the original settlement that became Vancouver.

steam clock

The four steam whistles at the corners of the clock play Westminster chimes to mark the quarter, half, three-quarters, and full hour (four tones for each 15 minutes). On the hour, the large whistle at the very top counts the hours.

statue of Gassy Jack

The statue in this plaza is "Gassy Jack" Deighton, an early saloon keeper and hotel owner. His nickname supposedly refers to his long, windbag stories (many of which were pure fiction).
