The Carillon was a gift to the city of Victoria from the Dutch community of British Columbia in honor of the Canadian Centennial. Built in 1967, it has 62 bells (13 added in 1971). The concert included religous, classical, popular, and jazz music.
Behind the Carillon (looking from the street), a sunken garden separates it from the British Columbia Archives. The Archives building is quite modern, with large windows of mirrored glass. You can see the Carillon reflected in the upper row of windows. At the left is a modern, totem-like sculpture that is reflected in the lower row of windows.
